This is no surprise to us at Women’s Community Shelters. We see this in Sydney, where the median house price is $1million, and rental affordability is at an all time low. There are currently 600,000 women Australia wide who are over 45, on low incomes, and who don’t own their own homes. Unless we develop policy with a ‘gender lens’, this group needing assistance now will become a tsunami in the next ten years.
